Desired Position : Chinese / Japanese Translator. I'm fluent in both Mandarin and Japanese, actually... So it's up to the main staff to decide whichever they might need more.
Are you a native speaker? :Yes. I'm chinese/japanese.
Text, videos, or both? :Both.
How much time can you dedicate weekly? : Pretty much daily. But probably 2 hours or so a day in July 2013 onwards.
Post examples of things you've translated (not required) : I... used to help SFI with their Japanese translations. And I used to be on Crunchyroll.com's official Mandarin translating team.
What makes you qualified for this position? : I've been translating for years now, and I definitely think that I will be able to help when it comes to translations. I'm sorry that I left without a word before, but I was struggling with some personal problems and I left all social networking sites... so, I really hope that I'll be allowed back on the team.

Lian He Bao - The 100% Mother that Aaron Yan Loves and Hates

Aaron Yan has a mother that always ask for a 100%, and he describes the relationship between them as 'love/hate'. He once missed out a question in a Primary One examination, and his mother broke down in front of him. This experience is etched heavily in his heart, which is why he forces himself to put on a strong front in front of his family. The only time he ever lost control was when he fell out of love for the first time. He was crying miserably when the phone call with his girlfriend ended, and his mother cried silently alongside him.

The handsome Aaron Yan is a very kind and sensitive boy in his mother's eyes. His mother his particularly worried about Aaron being too direct, therefore offending others easily. "During his rebellious stage, if the teacher were to teach in a way he does not like, he would stand up and shout. I would go to the Principal's Office at least once a year."

Aaron Yan has always loved singing since he was a child. He had been singing in class from primary school all the way to university, and very loudly too. Unafraid of people overhearing, his classmates always found him too noisy. His mother expresses, "Luckily he sings well." It was not shocking that her son entered the entertainment industry, but the first time she saw her son on stage, she felt nervous for him. "I hope he can always give a 100%, I'm afraid that he may get too nervous and make mistakes."

Though the relationship between mother and son is very strong, they are not good at expressing themselves vocally. Aaron Yan said that when he sustained a leg injury, his mother fetched him to and fro work. He was really worried that she would suffer from indigestion, yet he was unable to express how he felt through words.

What makes you qualified for this position:
I have been an active member of SFI for the past two years and the dedication of the staff here, especially the translators, has really moved me. Like you guys, I want to be able to spread the brilliance that is SHINee across the globe, regardless of language. Being a translator allows me to reach out to the English-speaking world, to let them know more about our five shining boys (:

I religiously look up for news of SHINee daily through Chinese and English fansites alike. The Chinese fansites provide an abundance of K-C translations of Twitter updates and fan accounts. I believe that through these resources, I will be able to translate the articles/updates efficiently for our fellow Shawols here on SFI.

It happened on a comfortably warm spring day.
The crab was walking leisurely along the river bank.

Are you a native speaker?: Yes,I can read traditional Chinese too.
Text, videos,or both?: Both are fine (:
How much time can you dedicate weekly?: Weekdays: 1-2 hours,Weekends: 3 hours? At the very least,I should be able to contribute about 11 hours each week.

Post examples of things you've translated (not required) :
  • 陆春龄, a performer, was said to be a representative of the Southern Flutist Group. At the age of 7, he developed an interest in flutes and was taught by a cobbler how to play one. When he was around 10 years old, he joined a performing group named “紫韵国乐社” and even before he was 20, he formed a band with his friends. Although as a child he was very poor and had to ride trishaws to work as a driver in order to support his family,he never gave up on his studying of the flute and was very dilligent and earnest in doing so. At last,at the peak of his self-study journey in 1952,he participated in the formation of Shanghai Chinese Orchestra and became the orchestra's conductor and solo flutist.
This was an article that I helped my aunt to translate when she was preparing some music festival, thus the contents aren't exactly for 'entertainment' purposes and I don't have the actual source of it. XD

What makes you qualified for this position? : In all honesty,I'm not quite sure whether I'm qualified for this position. ^^;
But I do know that being able to contribute back to SFI and the fandom after receiving so much from them,be it in terms of videos, fan accounts or just news of the boys, is something I would like to do.
Furthermore, I'm blessed to be able to know more than one language so I'm just putting this 'gift' that I have to good use.
And even though it's not related at all I just want to say thank you to the staff of SFI all these while for your efforts! hehe. (:

Girl in the front: 반바지는 안 돼!

그래서 키 형은 매니저 형의 옷을 뺏어 입었다.

키: 이제 됐지?
Girl in the front: 아니, 이 신발 안 돼!

매니저 형의 운동화를 신었다.

키: 여기 입장료!
Girl in the front:아니, 이 티셔츠 안 돼!
키: 뭐라구?

키 형은 울상이 되었고, 우리는 왠지 그 모습이 웃겨서 키득키득.
결국 해변가에 누워 밤하늘을 바라보는데,
키 형이 말이 없다.
아, 안타까워!
형! 우리 다음에, 언젠간 꼭 볼 수 있을 거예요!
그땐 꼭 봐요!

Barceloneta has many restaurants with an ocean view.
There are restaurants, bars, and clubs!
As we are walking around, we hear cheerful music and people’s laughter coming from somewhere.
We approach the place where the sounds are coming from, and it is a club.
Many people were dancing.
The sun hadn’t even set yet, could people already be drunk?
That wasn’t the case. Looking around, I found that there were more people drinking non-alcoholic beverages than there were drinking alcoholic ones.
People happily dancing with strangers,
people creating laughter through movements too embarrassing to call dancing,
these people in every direction, enjoying the moment with no hesitation, looked like the happiest people in the world.

Right. Also one episode. As we were walking down Lambras Road, Key hyung suddenly shouted.

Key: David Guetta! I really like him! When is this?
Wow! It’s the night before we leave! I have to go here. Don’t stop me. I will come here for sure!

So on the last day, we headed down to the club where “genius DJ” David Guetta was to perform. With an extremely excited Key hyung. But we got caught at the entrance.

Girl in the front: You can’t wear shorts!

So Key hyung stole manager hyung’s clothes.

Key: There?
Girl in the front: No, these shoes are not allowed!

He wore manager hyung’s sneakers.

Key: Here is the entrance fee!
Girl: No, this T-shirt is not allowed!
Key: What did you say?

Key hyung was near tears, but for some reason, we [Onew and Taemin] found it was funny and laughed a little.
Eventually, we went to the shores and lay down. While looking up at the night sky,
Key hyung had no words to say.
Ah, too bad!
Hyung, next time, some time, we will get to see him!
Let’s see him then for sure!

I've never officially translated before, so I just randomly picked a passage in the book to translate. ^^;

What makes you qualified for this position? :
  • I'm fluent in Korean and English. I can read, write, speak, and understand it very well (I use Korean at work, too). Also, as a Korean American, I can pick up on things from both Korean and American cultures.
  • I'm meticulous and dedicated.
I haven't been posting on SFI because I'm shy, but I've always been active in keeping up to date with SHINee's news. It's so amazing when people share material (whether it be media, news, or personal experiences), and I'd love to be a part of the team to help contribute to that.

Severely - FTIsland

Everyday, I try to let you go without caring or showing my emotions, but it only feels awkward
Everyday, I try to cry secretly while I appear to smile, but it seems my shaking voice gave it away
More than love itself, separating is probably a thousand times harder
I'm a fool who can't live without you, what can I do?

*Severely, I must have loved you so intensely
I can't breathe, I'm looking for you -- when will I ever be able to stop?
Severely, I must have loved you so intensely
It seems letting you go will be harder and more painful than killing me*

No matter how much it hurts, I still attempt to spend each day easily like it's nothing
But it doesn't seem I can forget you, not that I ever could
This sickness that can't be cured, it's hurting me
I'm a fool who can't live without you, what can I do?

*chorus*

I should not have loved and let it come to this
When will I ever forget?

Selfishly, I must have loved you so selfishly
There's only you, I can't even dream of another love --
I'm a fool who knows only you, what can I do?
Severely, we must have separated so severely
What's so hard about saying goodbye? I can't even open my mouth, I'm hesitating
Severely, I must have left you so severely
You're branded into my heart more deeply than a scar
It seems I'll never be able to erase you
[b]What makes you qualified for this position? : I may not be a native speaker, but I've been studying Korean for about a year and a half now and I can understand song lyrics, social media posts (i.e.: Twitter, Facebook, etc.), and variety shows with little difficulty. I am currently studying to take the Korean Subject SAT in my junior year :) I don't break my promises - if I say that I will have something translated in a certain amount of time, it will definitely be done by then. I am very detail-oriented, and my biggest pet peeve when it comes to K-pop is inaccurate or incomplete translations. I will dedicate all I can to this job if you add me to the SFI team!!

Are you a native speaker? : I am a native English speaker.

Again - Yui Japanese lyrics (sample)

夢の続き 追いかけていたはずなのに
曲がりくねった 細い道 人に躓く

あの頃にみたいにって 戻りたいわけじゃないの なくしてきた空を
探してる
分かってくれます様に 犠牲になった様な 悲しい顔は
やめてよ

罪の最後は涙じゃないよ ずっと苦しく背負ってくんだ
出口見えない感情迷路に
誰を待ってるの
白いノートに綴った様に もっと素直に吐き出したいよ
何から逃れたいんだ

現実ってやつか

Quote

Again - Yui Lyrics Translation (by me)

Even though I was running after something being carried on by my dreams
I keep on stumbling with people on this winding path

It's not as if I want to return to the way things were before
I am just searching for the sky that I've lost

I hope that you would understand me
Stop making that sad face as if you are the victim

The end of sins is not by tears, you have to always shoulder the pain
In this maze with no visible exit,
who am I waiting for?
As if spelled on a white notebook, I want more honesty
What am I running away from...
...that thing called reality?

What makes you qualified for this position? :
- I have been studying Japanese for 4 years (5 years next year) although I am still weak with Kanji. However, I am confident to translate texts if I am able to copy the Japanese text into my Kanji-Hiragana translator since I can read hiragana perfectly.
- I am less confident to work with video since I am worried I might confuse the similar-sounding words, but I do want to try it out to challenge myself.
- I am determined and I take languages very seriously. I also wish to perfect my Japanese.
- I also want to work with the SFI team because I wish to be part of the prowess that helps Global Shawols.
- I also take English grammar VERY seriously so I wish to produce quality translations. =)

Are you a native speaker? : No, i am not, but i have been watching japanese animes for about 8 years, and i know kanji and hiragana well enough to be able to translate it to English. Furthermore, i listen to jpop and kpop songs so as to familiarize myself with japanese language. ^^
Text, videos or both? Text is easy for me, videos will be a bit hard as sometimes the japanese people speak quite fast for me to be able to catch what they are saying. I understand what they might be saying, just afraid i might hear the wrong word. :)
How much time can you dedicate weekly? For now until march, i am having holidays and part time job, so on weekdays, lets say, 4 hours everyday. And on weekends, i can commit to about 6-8 hours. (:
After march, is it okay if i see my timetable and update you ? because i will be in a new course, new school, and i am not sure of the timings everyday and weekends
Post examples of things you have translated ( not required) : This is a sample i did
(:

Hiragana Translation :

Koko ni ikiteru imi ga wakaru yo Umare ochita yorokobi o shiru, let's stay together, itsu mo

English Translation :

I was so happy, you were laughing
With a smile that melts everything away

Spring is still far away, inside the cold earth,
Waiting for the time to sprout

For instance, even if today is painful
And yesterday's wounds remain
I want to believe that I can free my heart and go on

I cannot be reborn
But I can change as I go on, so
Let's stay together always

Smile only at me and touch me with those fingers
This simple desire is everlasting

I want things to be simple
Let's finally get across this sea of mournful sorrow

For instance, even if today is painful
Someday it will become a warm memory
If you leave everything up to your heart

I understand the meaning of our living here
It is to know the joy of having been born
Let's stay together always

For instance, even if today is painful
Someday it will become a warm memory
If you leave everything up to your heart

I understand the meaning of our living here
It is to know the joy of having been born
Let's stay together always

What makes you qualified for this position?
I will be honest here. I have been watching anime and learning japanese by myself, though i am not a qualified translator in japanese language, i have learnt hiragana and katakana well enough to understand what it means in English (: It's alright if i dont get chosen, and i hope you wont mind if i make mistakes >< I do better at katakana and hiragana, in text. Hiragana is easier because the sentence is easier to translate into English. but despite all that, its easy for me to translate hiragana / katakana words in text than videos. Videos, will be a bit hard for me but i have yet to try translating it. It would be a new challenge for me to translate videos… (: Thank you for taking the time to read this application even though its like a small significance (:
I'm still learning and refining myself in Japanese because when i was 13, my school made it compulsory for us to learn Malay for two years and after i was done with learning it when i reached 14 three years ago, i have been refining and practising my japanese and helping to translate SHINee's Run with Me english translation (:, and i passed my Japanese test recently~ ( super happy >_< ) and i wish that i can be of help to SFI's team of translators and help out with translations whenever needed ^^

Thank you (: ♥

-Desired Position : Japanese Translator~!! Japanese-English, or the other way around is fine too:)

-Are you a native speaker? :Yes^^ I'm Japanese. I've lived in Japan for my first 8 years. Ever since I've moved to US, I've been taking Japanese School on Saturdays. I always talk to my friends and family in Japanese too :) Totally good with Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji... :D My English is fine too, I've lived in US for almost... 7 years? Half life in Japan, half in America.

-Text, videos, or both? : Both~ ^^ I actually already sub SHINee vids on Youtube. Here's my channel: https://www.youtube....ox1117/featured
I recently found a good editor, and thought of applying here cause one of my subscribers recommended^^

-How much time can you dedicate weekly? : Daily:) I'm only a freshmen so I have plenty of time during the day^^ (No worries, I still got straight A's after watching SHINee vids & looking thru twitter for 4 or more hours a day:P) So hmmm... About 5 hours a day? Sometimes more. No Staurday, since I have school. Sunday... 4 hours too. I want to spend time with my family too:)

-What makes you qualified for this position? :
Hmm... Well my dream is to be a translater/traveler one day when I grow up:) So I guess this is my second big step to train myself in Japanese and English.... and become one that can help people around me who doesn't understand the language of where they at or who they speak to^^

Enough about me. I just see how a lot of translater that does Jap to Eng translation everyday is very busy. So I thought I should come in to help^^ Though I'm young, I still have good grades so I don't really have to mind about it. And thanks to being young, I have plety of time. Why wouldn't I use this extra time to help these amazing shawols who takes time of their days translating for the other shawols? :D

What else should I say...? I speak both languages. I understand Mandarin too. Currently learning French:) .....ANDD I really wanna learn Korean >A< Anyways~ I'm an easy person to work with. I don't cause dramas or say negative things around people.

OHHH!! Most importantly, SHINee is my World<3
I love them. They are my inspiration... The cause of my new dream, the starting of my new life, and an open door that lead me to be a whole new person<3 So I would love to share their love, fun, childishness, dorkiness, and kindness with other shawols in the world... thru words<3

Well, I said enough. Hope I get applied!! :D Annyeong~^^

Username: SHINeeluver012

First Name: Erica

Birthday: 10/13/95

Country & Timezone: United States / -7 PDT, -8 PST

Desired Position: Korean Translator

Are you a native speaker?: No, but I have gone through Korean school and worked my way up to the highest level.

Text, video, or both?: Both

How much time can you dedicate weekly?: 1-3 hours per day (Depending whether it's exam time or not) During school holidays, 4-5 hours per day.

Examples: I have subbed a few f(x) interviews in the past and recently I have subbed SHINee's Wonderful Day the cut version. I do not have the best subbing program so I may have varied colors of the text. Sorry about that. This is Part 1 that I have subbed

This is my youtube channel if you would like to look at my other subbings http://www.youtube.c...12?feature=mhee

I also have been translating tweets of relating to SHINee (Jonghyun's and Onew's) and articles on Naver.

What makes you qualified for this position?:

Although I am not a native, I have been learning Korean throughout my whole life even now and I want to use those skills to translate for the Shawols who don't understand our language. I translate because of SHINee World and I want to contribute as much as possible to this fandom. I may not live in Korea or be one of those fans who travel everywhere and support the boys but I am capable of sharing the thoughts (interviews, opinions, etc) of the boys to all the fans out there and to the people who aren't even fans. That is how I try to express my love towards the boys (and buy albums and such xD) Even if time constraints me from doing leisure activities, I always try to save up some time to help out International Shawols by translating texts!

I am very determined to finish whatever you guys give me to sub or translate~ Also I've been recommended to apply so... I'm here for you! ^^

Finally... translating increases my knowledge of the Korean language and culture which would be very beneficial for me as I would like to study in Korea (Yonsei to be specific). It would really be an honor to sub and translate for you guys!!

Thank you for reading my application~

"The reason they picked that name, is not only because it has the word “SHINee” in it, and is the name of their first album, but also because they want to have a fanclub, that always be there for them anytime, always support them anytime, their fans always be around them, and SHINee always be around SHINee World. That’s why the name SHINee World came up. They want to have a ‘world’ with people supporting and loving each other, always be together and forever." -Onew
